On Thursday, Bloomberg News reported that Trading app company Robinhood Markets Inc was preparing to offer commission-free crypto trading in the European Union,
The app, which goes operational on Thursday, will let European traders purchase and sell over 25 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether, and the SOL token of the Solana Network, according to a statement by Robinhood’s Crypto general manager Johann Kerbrat in an interview with Bloomberg.
Robinhood did not immediately respond to inquiries about the new service.
The announcement of the launch comes on the heels of an announcement by Robinhood that as part of an international plan for expansion, driven by a desire to “democratize finance” and increase access to markets, it was going to be rolling out brokerage services in the UK.
In the interview, Kerbrat said that the Silicon Valley-based firm was not immediately planning to offer the new crypto services to UK traders, due to the lack of any regulatory clarity surrounding the brokerage of digital assets within the nation.
