On Tuesday, Nintendo upgraded its operating profit forecast 11% to 500 billion yen ($3.32 billion) for the financial year ending in March, as the veteran Switch console continues to attract fans of video games.
Utilizing a series of heavy-hitting games, the Kyoto-based Nintendo has managed to keep the hybrid home-portable gaming console alive through its seventh year in the market.
Over the first six months of the financial year, Nintendo sold 6.84 million Switch units, slightly increasing the 6.68 million gaming units which were sold over the same period last year.
The gaming console’s sales have been boosted this year by critically acclaimed titles such as “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”, which debuted in May, and “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” which went on sale in October.
On top of that, adding to Nintendo’s cultural appeal was the success of the Super Mario Bros. movie.
The company held fast to its full-year forecast for sales of the console to come in at 15 million units, which would mark a 16.5% decline over the sales one year prior.
Following the widespread disruptions to the game development process produced by the pandemic period, this year became a banner year for the release of new games throughout the industry.
In addition analysts expect that the critical year-end shopping season will see Nintendo’s lineup boosted by new releases, including the “Super Mario RPG,” which will be released for sale on November 17th.
