On Sunday, in a post to his social media platform “X,” Elon Musk said that his new artificial intelligence startup xAI will be integrated into the platform X, however it will also be made available as a standalone app.
He added that xAI had already debuted its first AI model, a bot which was christened Grok, and that it had been made available to all Premium+ subscribers on the X platform on Friday.
Musk has said the new startup is looking to create AI tools which will ‘assist humanity in its quest for understanding and knowledge’ and that Grok has been designed to perform its functions with a touch of wit.
Musk launched xAI in July after complaining that Big Tech was teaching its AI models “to lie” and that this would prove dangerous for humanity. He noted that xAI was tasked with producing a “maximum truth seeking AI” which will compete with Google’s Bard AI and Microsoft Bing’s AI, as it seeks to understand the nature of the universe.
Musk added, “Grok has real-time access to info via the X platform, which is a massive advantage over other models.”
Although X, Musk’s social media platform, is separate from xAI, the artificial intelligence startup, the two companies have worked closely together. xAI also works with Musk’s other companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX.
In a conversation with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the first global AI Safety Summit, in Bletchley Park, England, Musk called AI, “the most disruptive force in history,” noting the technology will have the ability to “do everything,” and that it will make the employment of human workers a thing of the past.
Musk co-founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, which set off a frenzied rush into the AI sector by technology startups when it released its generative AI chatbot ChatGPT. However he stepped down from the board of OpenAI in 2018.
