In an announcement, Toyota Motors revealed that global production rose 4% in August over the same period a month ago, to 798,771 vehicles, marking a record for the month.
The world’s largest automaker saw domestic production increase 22% from one year prior, which countered a 2% decline in overseas output and highlighted the company’s recovery from the semiconductor and supply chain troubles of one year ago.
A one-day shutdown of all of the automaker’s domestic assembly plants due to a malfunction, had little effect on production numbers.
In India, the company posted a 321% increase in production, to just over 32,000 units, due to the benefits of its alliance with Suzuki Motors. On Wednesday, Reuters reported that the firm was planning to construct a third manufacturing plant in the country.
Toyota reported a 9.8% increase in global sales for the month of August, to 853,285 vehicles, which was also a record for the month.
The figures for production and sales include the automaker’s luxury brand, Lexus.
Sales declined about 7% in China, while domestic sales soared roughly 46%, and US sales rose 15%.
In August, the automaker sold 11,880 battery electric vehicles across the globe. In total, the automaker sold about 65,000 battery EVs in the first eight month of the year, with almost all of them sold overseas.
