On Tuesday Bloomberg reported that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, led the way as the wealth of the world’s richest billionaires surged over the first half of the year.
The world’s 500 wealthiest individuals, all of whom are in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, added a cumulative $852 billion to their fortunes over the first six months of the year, according to the financial news service.
The top earner was Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who added $96.6 billion to his total fortune in the first six months of the year. Mark Zuckerberg added $58.9 billion to his fortune over the first half of the year, according to the report.
Bloomberg noted that it was the most lucrative six month period for billionaires since the second half of 2020, as the economy rebounded from the slump induced by the pandemic.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index listed Musk as the world’s richest person, with a net worth of $247 billion. Mark Zuckerberg came in at number nine, with a net worth of $104 billion.
