Tesla Motors (TSLA) has once again cut the prices of its vehicles, according to its website on Thursday, doubling down on a strategy to spur demand, as the threat of a weakening economy batters rivals such as Ford and GM.
According to the website, the discounts will range from a 1.9% reduction in the cost of the performance version of the Model 3, to a 5.6% reduction in price on the basic version of the Model S. The company has issued no public comment on the price reductions.
Chief Executive Elon Musk has made several comments in recent months, noting the company intended to pursue a strategy of cutting prices to ignite demand, and pointing out the company saw significant success in January, when it offered a series of global discounts.
Both versions of the Model S have seen their prices cut, with the basic version enjoying a 5.6% reduction in price to $84,990, and the performance, Plaid version seeing its price reduced by 4.5% to $104,990.
The Model 3 saw the prices of both its basic and performance variants reduced by $1,000, according to the website. The basic variant of the Model 3 was reduced by 2.3% to $41,990, as the performance variant saw its price reduced by 1.9% to $52,990.
