On Sunday the Wall Street Journal reported that hamburger chain McDonalds Corp (MCD.N) will be closing its offices temporarily this week in preparation for informing employees about layoffs as part of a larger restructuring the company is undergoing.
US employees and some international staff received an internal email last week which asked that they work from home Monday through Wednesday, while the company delivers layoff notices virtually. The report did not specify how many employees will be laid off.
In the email, viewed by the Journal, the Chicago-based company said, “During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization.”
The company also requested that all in-person meetings between employees and vendors or other outside parties which had been scheduled at its headquarters be canceled.
In January the fast-food chain had noted as part of its updated business strategy, it would review corporate staffing levels, and that could lead to layoffs in some areas, and expansions of head count in others.
It is expected by Monday, McDonalds will begin announcing its key decisions going forward.
