On Friday it was reported that authorized Apple service centers in Russia are saying the company had notified them that it was ending the warranty service for Macs and iPads in the nation. However official warranties will still be in effect for the Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods, and other gadgets, according to the report.
One Apple service center, the Fixed one service center, pointed to a letter from the company, which it claimed said that owners of computers and tablets which had problems arise with their devices during the warranty period would need to contact stores and request a refund.
The Fixed one, however noted there could be problems in such cases, since it is the service center which is supposed to assess the nature of the problem with the device before an owner can be issued a refund.
According to a report from RIA Novosti, the largest chain of Apple stores and service centers in Russia, re:Store, said it had not received any notice about the warranty termination, adding it was still fulfilling its obligations to customers as it normally would for all devices which were purchased.
The Izvestia newspaper reported in February that authorized Apple service centers located in Russia had begun refusing to repair Apple devices which had been purchased overseas. At the time, Apple’s tech support noted the company had not issued any such order.
