Ram introduced its new entry into the competition for dominance of the electric truck market on Thursday, as it introduced the new Ram 1500 Revolution electric pickup truck. The new offering caused a stir at the CES 2023 tech show, as auto critics referred to the new truck as “sleek, futuristic, and unlike trucks today.”
Despite having watched Ford, Rivian, and GMC beat it into the market and deliver their vehicles to customers, Ram Revolution Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles said that by taking their time, Ram has managed to offer a superior product in, “all the areas customers care about the most,” including range, towing, payload, and charging.
In an interview, Gilles told the Verge, “It’s the difference between bringing a really good bottle of wine to a party or just crashing it late. We’re looking at outperforming competitors in every aspect.”
While it is still in the concept stage, the truck has drawn exemplary praise, with one critic saying it makes, “Tesla’s Cybertruck look outdated.”
Alisa Priddle with Motortrend said, “It has delivered an eyeful.”
The Revolution features cameras instead of side mirrors, its doors swing open in opposite directions to each other, and the interior features third-row jumper seats. The truck will feature 350 kilowatt charging, and the company promises it will be able to add 100 miles in range in ten minutes of charging.
Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. added, “Everything you see from now on will be a direct descendant of this.”
The Ram Revolution is expected to launch in 2024.
