Elon Musk has told employees there will be no more layoffs for the time being.
Bloomberg reported yesterday that the social media giant was expecting to initiate another round of layoffs this week, targeting Twitter’s sales and partnership programs, and that the layoffs would begin Monday.
The report followed the turbulent previous week, which saw employees given an ultimatum to sign a document committing to work long hours at high intensity building a hardcore Twitter 2.0 or consider themselves terminated. Adding ot the chaos, many employees chose to neither accept termination or sign the document. That was followed by a lockout of all employees from Twitter facilities due to fears of sabotage.
After Bloomberg reported new layoffs would begin Monday, Twitter’s workforce was braced for the worst as the week began.
However the Verge is now reporting that at an all hands meeting on Monday, the automotive billionaire told employees that there were no layoffs forthcoming, and that the company was presently recruiting for engineers and ad sales roles.
Separately, Musk had been tweeting memes seeking to lure former President Donald Trump to begin tweeting, after the platform reinstated his account. The former President’s account took several days to see all its previous followers added, and then acquired more than five million additional followers in the day after that, bringing the total up to 87.6 million followers as of press time.
However the former President appeared to be holding to his word to not use the account, as he continues to post his social media posts from his account on his own platform, Truth Social.
