In a conference call with analysts, Elon Musk revealed that Tesla intends to begin the mass production of its new Cybertruck around the end of 2023, according to a report from Reuters.
First unveiled in 2019, the al electric pickup truck was supposed to enter production in late 2021, however production has been postponed three times now for various reasons.
Tesla fans have been eager to get their hands on the new truck, fawning over it for the last three years, even though there has been no solid information on the final production version’s cost, or any details about the exact features and specifications of the vehicle. In 2019 the company said the initial price would be under $40,000, however since then Tesla has been raising prices for its entire lineup, so it is assumed it will cost more when it finally goes up for sale.
According to Reuters, Tesla has accumulated several hundred thousand reservations for Cybertrucks, at a cost of $100 per reservation, however the company has yet to reveal exactly how many hard orders it has. The company had stopped taking preorders from outside North America in May of this year, as Musk told reporters the company had built up, “more orders of the first Cybertrucks than we could possibly fulfill for three years after the start of production.”
Tesla had revealed last month that preparations had begun at its Austin, Texas factory, to begin production of the new vehicle.
On a conference call with analysts, Musk said, “We’re in the final lap for Cybertruck,” adding, “early production” would start in mid-2023.
Analysts are expecting when the Cybertruck finally enters the market, it will directly compete with electric pickups from Ford and Rivian.
