Elon Musk appeared to have begun firing Twitter employees, as sources said a number of people who appeared to have worked for the social media giant could be seen exiting the San Francisco offices with boxes of their belongings. However people familiar with the matter said that internal employee communications using slack channels were claiming that the people seen leaving with boxes were part of a hoax, and that so far, no employee layoffs have occured.
Bloomberg news service reported it had tried to verify if any employees were laid off and identify specific names of any released employees, however it was unable to.
It is confirmed that Elon Musk began laying off executives immediately after the acquisition deal completed on Thursday. The Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Head of Legal Policy were all released from the company as Musk shook up the upper leadership, according to sources familiar with the matter.
It is reported that there is an employee meeting scheduled for next Wednesday, however sources said some staff are concerned that they have not received an invitation to the meeting.
There have been no official comments on the matter from Twitter.
