As Ford looks to expand its sales in the commercial vehicle market, it has just unveiled its newly redesigned Superduty product line this week.
Set to begin selling next spring, the new lineup has been redesigned both inside and out, complete with new enhanced towing capabilities, brand-new gas and diesel engines which are promised to deliver the most, “torque and horsepower of any heavy-duty full-size truck,” and new productivity-enhancing technologies.
The lineup is a major cash cow for the company. Ford CEO Jim Farely noted in an interview with Yahoo Finance News, that the Superduty lineup alone generates more annual revenue than several large US corporations. Farley said, “If the Super Duty was a separate company, it would have more revenue than some Fortune 500 companies. It’s part of our F-Series, our most profitable vehicles globally.”
Occupying 50% of the market share of utility, construction, mining, and emergency response vehicles, the Superduty brand dominates the commercial market.
The newly redesigned model debuted on Tuesday, right near where the trucks are manufactured, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Already one of the largest automakers in Kentucky, and one of the largest employers overall in the state, Ford will be investing an additional $700 million and hiring another 500 workers at its Kentucky facilities to support production of the new 2023 F-series Superduty truck.
Farley said, “We’ve invested a lot in this new truck. It’s America’s most popular heavy duty pickup, and we’ve been number one for more than 40 years. It’s a lot of optimism, which is great to see.”
