On September 18th, there were 990 new Covid-19 cases, with 147 symptomatic and 843 asymptomatic, according to data from the National Health Commission released Monday.
By comparison, that was down from the 1,189 new cases reported a day earlier, with 154 symptomatic and 1,035 asymptomatic.
There were no new deaths either day, maintaining the nation’s total fatalities at 5,226.
So far mainland China has reported 248,326 cases with symptoms as of September 18th.
Beijing, the nation’s capital reported that it registered no new symptomatic or asymptomatic cases September 18th, as well as the day before, September 17th.
Economic hub Shanghai reported it had no symptomatic cases and only three asymptomatic cases, compared with none of either classification the day before.
Shenzhen, the southern technology center, reported no new locally transmitted cases after reporting two a day earlier. The city was just coming off a strict lockdown for most residents, after registering a minor outbreak earlier.
Chengdu, in the southwest reported two new locally transmitted cases, down from five it reported a day earlier. The metropolis is returning to normal after a period of strict lockdowns triggered by a small rise in cases.
Investors are closely watching China’s Covid numbers in anticipation of any outbreaks triggering further supply chain issues, as well as precipitating drops in energy prices due to sudden restrictions in demand produced by aggressive lockdowns imposed by the government.
