California continues to suffer from among the highest gas prices in the nation.
As the national average price of gas hit $5.014 on Monday, 21 states are now seeing statewide average gas prices of well over $5.00 per gallon. Maine, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California all exceeded a $5.00 per gallon average gas price. California, at $6.436 per gallon, holds the record for the highest state-wide average gas price.
However the situation becomes even more problematic if you examine what the prices are by county. Washoe County, Nevada presently has an average price of $6.122 per gallon. In California, Monterey county stands at $6.60 per gallon, San Mateo is at $6.637, Sonoma is at $6.613, and Humboldt is at $6.825, and the most expensive county, Alpine County, averages $7.799 per gallon.
Meanwhile the average price of diesel in California stands at $6.991 on Monday.
Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm blamed Russia for the skyrocketing prices, telling Sen. Josh Hawley, “You can thank the activity of Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine.”
