Gas has now risen to a record high for the 15th day in a row, as it remained over $5 per gallon on Sunday according to AAA data.
Gas prices passed $5 per gallon for the first time ever on Saturday, and remained there over the rest of the weekend. GasBuddy had shown the average price of gas passed the $5 mark on Thursday.
The prices pose a problem for the Biden administration in light of recent Tralfagar polling showing that most Americans believe the White House is either allowing or encouraging high gas prices to try and force the nation to wean itself off fossil fuel. As a result, they ascribe the blame for the prices more on the White House than other causes.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has told Americans to buckle down, and not expect any relief from the high prices any time soon. Last week she told reporters that Americans will have to pay at least $4 per gallon for the foreseeable future.
In May, before the current surge in prices, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) was predicting that this year the average American will pay $450 more for gas than in 2021. That number is growing as the price of gas rises.
