The carmaker made famous by the movie Back to the Future, is back again, this time with a new EV. The DeLorean car company has been revived with new ownership, this time in San Antonio Texas, and it has just introduced its new EV, the Alpha5.
Neilo Harris, DeLorean Motor Company VP of Brand & Creative said, “We have been given the opportunity to re-imagine a brand that has meant so much to so many people from all corners of the globe, for four decades. DeLorean has touched so many lives and set the stage for so many memories… we are now witnessing a new chapter of this amazing story.”
The new model maintains the coupe styling of the original, as well as its gull-wing doors, but includes extra seating. The stats for this latest model are pretty impressive, with a 0-60 time of 2.99 seconds, a 0-88 time of 4.35 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph. It will also have a 300 mile range and a battery size of over 100kWh.
Although the company has not spoke to pricing, and the EV market is already quite crowded, some think the DeLorean name and styling might be enough to make this model stand out and solidify the company’s position in the sector.
Troy Beetz, chief marketing officer of DeLorean Motor Company, said in a statement, “The Alpha5 is a representation of the past 40 years of DeLorean. There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future…I think we did both with the Alpha5.”
The company says to expect the Alpha5 to premiere at the Pebble Beach Concours d ‘Elegance in August later this summer.
