Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stepped down from Twitter’s board of directors on Wednesday. Dorsey had already begun to distance himself from twitter, leaving Twitter’s Chief Executive role late last year. Since he had stepped down as CEO, his eventual exit from the company’s board has been planned. At the time the company has said he would remain, “until his term expires at the 2022 meeting of stockholders.”

Dorsey’s exit comes during  period of turmoil for the social media company, as Tesla’s Elon Musk has launched a takeover bid for the company, and lawsuits from shareholders have been launched against the possible new owner in response.
